There are quick attacks, dodges, rolls, parries, blocks and strong attacks with 1 and 2 handed weapons. Some battles were difficult, but there is no punishment's for repeated deaths. Ok, just 100% completed Tails of Iron, which I suppose may nearly fit into this category. I don't particularly recommend it unless you have exhausted all the better Souls-likes already and are really craving for more. The post-apocalyptic city is a bit better than drab grey metallic walls, but like, one level had that dreaded PS360 piss filter all over it, and the underground area had very crappy lighting (not as in, it was intentionally dark, but rather, it was muddy, with black crush, flashlight didn't help etc.). Level design was okay with the interconnected world and Metroidvania traversal elements, but the visuals are still really uninspired (though a bit better than 1). Weirdly enough, the last boss was a joke with a specific weapon, I just did charged attacks to basically facetank it, its AI could not deal with that at all. The bosses especially, my god, they are all invariably terrible (wrote a rant about some of them a few days ago here). and I don't just mean the jank and bugs or the fact that I had to use this ridiculous workaround to make the game even run at an acceptable framerate (WTF, seriously). It wasn't a bad game, but they really still have a long way to go before even coming close to FromSoft's quality. The Surge 2 is still my favourite 3D souls like (outside of FROM games of course) which gives me hope that the next games from both developers will be excellent. The beginning was hard for me even after playing all the souls game which was refreshing lol, too bad the difficulty takes a nose dive shortly after and the game becomes too easy up until the final boss which took me few tries to beat. Mortal Shell is the much better looking game and feels more polished even though both games were janky.

Overall I really liked the setting and the unique ideas which I hope gets fleshed out in a future sequel. The bosses were easy (except for the suhn boss and the undisputed which took me a while). Hellpoint was the more familiar souls experience, I both liked and hated the level design, while it had the secrets and shortcuts like souls games, it was samey and confusing at times. I can't wait for the next game from both developers, and hopefully with more time and budget they can work on the shortcomings of their debuts. Played both Hellpoint and Mortal Shell in the past few weeks and liked them both even if I didn't like few things.
